Above us only sky

May 5 is always a special day. It is the day when the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum sends "the big email," where declares the works selected for the annual exhibition Birds in Art.
This year my cheeks silver hornbill from "Above us only sky" has been selected for this prestigious international exhibition. I am honored and very happy!

This work comes from my last experience in Africa, where I was able to observe this strange bird out of this so peculiar beak, near the park Arusha, Tanzania.
The hornbill looks up at the infinite sky; so I decided to name it "Above us only sky" clearly taken from the song Imagine by John Lennon, a phrase to which I am particularly fond enough to have it tattooed on my right arm. It was one of the favorite phrases of Maurizio who is always in my heart ... and I'm sure it was him to bring me luck for this wonderful adventure like Birds in Art!
